Seed, Mulch and Soil Work Built Around Middle Tennessee Clay

Hydroseeding Nashville sprays seed, mulch and fertilizer onto new yards, builder lots, slopes and construction sites across Davidson County and nearby Middle Tennessee towns. Seeding is only part of it. The ground has to be ready and protected, so we handle grading and topsoil, silt fence and inlet protection, erosion control blankets on steep ground, and repair and overseeding for lawns that have thinned out.

The Nashville area asks a lot of a new lawn. Most of the city sits in the Nashville Basin, where soils like the Maury series put a few inches of brown silt loam over reddish brown clay that gets firmer the deeper you go. The basin is ringed by the Highland Rim, so plenty of lots are hilly, and the airport averages a little over 50 inches of rain a year, with May the wettest month. Bare clay on a slope in a spring storm washes fast. That is why we treat seeding, soil prep and erosion control as one job instead of three.

We also pay attention to the calendar. University of Tennessee Extension puts the best window for cool-season grasses like tall fescue at late August to mid-October, and the window for warm-season grasses at May 1 through June 30. Seeding outside those windows can work for temporary cover on a construction site, but for a lawn you plan to keep, we will tell you if waiting a few weeks makes more sense.

How we work

  • We walk the property, look at slope, drainage, sun and soil, and ask how the yard will be used
  • You get a written quote that separates grading, topsoil, seeding, blankets and silt fence
  • If the work is large enough to need a Metro grading permit, we tell you before anything is disturbed
  • Seed mix is matched to the season and to sun or shade, not picked off a shelf
  • Slopes get extra mulch, tackifier or blankets based on how steep they are
  • Every new lawn comes with a printed sheet covering watering and the first mow
  • Silt fence goes in before grading starts on sites that drain toward a street, inlet or creek
